Run an OPD Patient Visit (end-to-end)¶
This walkthrough follows an outpatient from the front desk through consultation, orders, and billing — the everyday hospital flow across registration, EMR, diagnostics, pharmacy, and billing.

1. Register / find the patient¶
Open Medical → Patients (Patients & Encounters). Register a new patient (name, gender, DOB, blood group, national ID, contact) or find an existing one. Capture any required consent.
2. Book or check in the appointment¶
Create an appointment (date, provider, In Person) and mark the patient Checked In on arrival.
3. Open the encounter¶
Start an Outpatient encounter — the container for everything that follows.
4. Record vitals and the consultation¶
In the EMR: Record Vitals, then write a SOAP note. Code the diagnosis to ICD-11 — type the complaint (English or Nepali) and accept an AI-suggested code.
5. Place orders¶
From the note, place Orders — labs, imaging, and/or medication. They flow to:
- Laboratory — order → collect → result → verify → report.
- Radiology — schedule → acquire → report.
- Pharmacy — dispense against the prescription.
6. Bill the visit¶
Each chargeable service raises a patient charge. Group the charges into an invoice, Issue it, and record payment — or, for an insured patient, raise an insurance claim (the co-pay split comes from the policy).
It all ties to one encounter
Vitals, notes, orders, results, and charges all hang off the same encounter, so the clinical record and the bill stay consistent — and the diagnosis feeds morbidity/DHIS2 reporting.
Done
The patient is seen, documented, investigated, medicated, and billed — a complete OPD episode.
